Having already pledged to offset our carbon emissions, we’re excited to give you a chance to take your own impact on the environment into your own hands, by enjoying a drink.
Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park is a project by Worldview International Foundation (WIF), which aims to restore 500,000 hectares of lost mangrove forest in the vulnerable delta region of Myanmar, which has lost over 80% of its mangrove forests. Just one mangrove tree can mitigate up to a tonne of CO2 over its lifetime and we have been given the chance to add to the 2.5 million that have already been planted in the park.
During Wonderfruit, you’ll notice our bars offer a special “green” drink, priced at a dollar more than the other items on the bar menu and served in a special cup. For every green drink ordered, proceeds will go directly to the climate park, where another mangrove tree will be planted in the designated Wonderfruit Forest area.
Mangroves are miracle plants, able to sequester CO2 at up to five times the rate of dry forests, with permanent storage in the ground. Growing in salt water, they protect communities from floods, filter the water for coral reefs, and act as a biodiversity nursery. The parks in Myanmar were named in honor of WIF’s founding member, Thor Heyerdahl, world-renowned Norwegian explorer and Kon Tiki author.
If you do choose to drink green in The Fields, please tell anyone who asks about the special cup you’re holding that you’ve just helped plant a mangrove tree! You can get more information at www.wif.care, and check out Heyerdahl Mangrove Park on Google Maps. If you have any questions, or would like to visit the Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, we invite you to join us in investing in Heyerdahl Mangrove Coin (HMC) available via the Lykke Wallet app (iOS or Android). 100% of funds raised will go to WIF, and Lykke will match a $1 HMC coin with your purchase, which will go towards their goal of planting one million mangroves next year.
