Pattaya, Thailand, 9 November 2017 – Wonderfruit, Thailand’s pioneering, sustainable, cross-cultural, live celebration of art, music and ideas has revealed some final ground-breaking additions that Wonderers can experience in the Fields this December.
In addition to the previously announced diverse, genre-bending lineup of live performers including the likes of Richie Hawtin, Roots Manuva, Wild Beasts, Chronixx & Zincfence Redemption, Craig Richards, as well as a number of interactive daytime activities for Wonderers of all ages in Camp Wonder, The FARMacy and Wonder Garden, this year, Wonderfruit is breaking away from the regular festival flock by synergizing its kaleidoscope of immersive experiences spanning six unique pillars, to encourage, develop, and innovate sustainable solutions that make a meaningful impact on the planet. Scheduled for December 14-17 in The Fields at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand, Wonderfruit’s fourth instalment returns with an upgraded ethos and meaningful sustainability initiatives.
Wonderers will be able to explore the Sustainability Pavilion, an interactive exhibition space and living proof of Wonderfruit’s progress on its fundamental ethos of sustainability and community, which will feature a range of art installations created using innovative techniques and sustainable materials.
Furthermore, Wonderfruit has joined the Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC), a growing global alliance working towards a world free of plastic pollution. With PPC’s help, Wonderfruit is making major changes to its plastic reduction policies. This year, Wonderers are encouraged to bring their own bamboo or steel flasks and bottles as there will be no single-use plastic allowed on site. Meanwhile, all food will be served on compostable tableware, and drinks will be poured into cups made of bagasse, the fibre that remains after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice.
WONDER FEASTS ON SALE NOW
The Theatre of Feasts will once again host banquets (prior reservation required) created by some of Asia’s most prestigious and innovative chefs, including Supanniga Eating Room on Friday night, whipping up a Thai feast sharing style dinner. On Saturday, Chef Prin from Nahm restaurant and Samrub for Thai will serve a Thai charcoal grilled meal for lunch, while Gaggan Anand, maestro of progressive Indian cuisine, will team up with the Suhring brothers (#13 Asia’s 50 Best), Takeshi ‘Goh’ Fukuyama of La Maison de la Nature Goh (#31 Asia’s 50 Best), and Gert de Mangeleer, the top chef from 3 Michelin Star restaurant Hertog Jan, to throw an extravagant dinner feast.
Wonderers will journey into Camps, a new concept that brings together like-minded collectives to develop their own microcosm inside Wonderfruit, where revellers can be part of unique experiences spanning from music to food and drinks to activities. For example:
Straight Outta Thonglor, the infamous hip hop-only venue, returns to The Fields, blending sustainability and natural design into their urban playground. Pop bottles to a soundtrack of old and new school hip hop courtesy of a DJ line up featuring local legends and special international guests; enjoy dishes from Bangkok’s finest eateries 80/20, La Monita, Peppina and Surface, and get in on the action with open mic freestyle sessions and spoken word jams.
Revamped by Joy Collective, Rainforest Pavilion will be a sanctuary of transformational activities and music from Indonesia – all dedicated to preserving rainforest land – and will feature performances by Indonesian DJ Ninda Felina from Greenpeace’s Save our Sounds, with an eclectic mix of pristine recordings of the Papuan rainforest integrated into electronic music, and DJ Mikey Moran, Go-Jek founder from Jakarta.
Those in a mood for some magic, should check out ALTN8, a camp inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s phantasmagorical universe. Prepare to journey “down the rabbit hole” while dancing to Berlin-style beats from a team of highly curated DJs from all over the world including Sven Dohse, Mimi Love, Lukas Endhardt and much more.
Meanwhile, Wonderers looking for a place to relax and immerse themselves in Thai culture, can do so at Neramit Camp. Presented in partnership with Tourism Authority of Thailand, This brand new cultural zone will send revellers on a gastronomic journey as they sample best local delicacies from all over Thailand, or participate in Thai dessert workshops, all while enjoying authentic Thai music from the Molam Bus by Jim Thompson Art Center.
SCRATCH TALKS HAS NEVER BEEN STRONGER
Wonderers can expect a range of experiences that encourage creativity, innovation, and collaboration. The Farm Stage, transformed by all(zone) into a community space, will be home to Scratch Talks. This year co presented by SC ASSET, the program will feature a series of eye-opening and perspective-shifting talks on the future of sustainable living. Inspirational talks will include sessions by Bea Johnson, author of “Zero Waste Home”, Dianna Cohen, co-founder and CEO of Plastic Pollution Coalition, Tony Fernandes, CEO of Air Asia, and many more.
CAMP WONDER: MORE THAN ART
Meanwhile, young Wonderers will be kept busy at Camp Wonder where, thanks to the team from Roong Aroon School, they can enjoy art activities with a holistic approach, making connections between the environment and art pieces they’re creating.
INNOVATION FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
In February, Wonderfruit became carbon positive through investing in mangroves. This year, it’s demonstrating the value of natural capital even more tangibly by giving Wonderers the chance to make a positive impact on the environment by buying drinks: one drink will be equal to one mangrove tree planted in Thor Heyerdahl Climate Park, in return for which, they’ll be rewarded in TREE tokens – a natural capital-based cryptocurrency. In addition, Wonderers are encouraged to visit the Treehugger Token installation by Wit Pimkanchanapong in The Fields, where they’ll help fold paper dolls and install them onto The Field’s tallest tree, to represent in real time the number of trees Wonderers will have collectively planted together.
Wonderfruit takes place at The Fields at Siam Country Club, Pattaya from 14 to 17 December 2017. Four-day passes can currently be purchased at 6,000 baht. Visit Wonderfruit’s website for more information on securing your tickets and accommodation.
